Public Health

Many Nebraska counties have their own health departments or collaborate with regional health districts to address public health needs. All counties are contained within one of six Developmental and Disability Regions and Behavior of Health and Substance Abuse Regions. Also, each county is contained within one Area Agency for Aging.

A county’s public health response may encompass various mental health crisis services, including providing essential funding to support local response strategies. These services offer crucial support to individuals experiencing mental health challenges, ensuring timely intervention and access to necessary resources. County veterans' service offices play a pivotal role in assisting veterans and their families. These offices coordinate a range of supportive services, including pensions, loans, transportation assistance, and other forms of aid tailored to meet the unique needs of veterans.
